  14. 1. WHAT IS STARDOTZIP?
  15.  
  16. StarDotZip is a file archiving program with extraction 
  17. and compression support for many archive types. 
  18. See Supported file types for a list of supported archive types.
  19. With StarDotZip you can open, extract, create and convert 
  20. many archive types with just a few mouse clicks.
  21.  
  22. StarDotZip is shareware. You can evaluate it for 30 days. 
  23. After 30 days, you must delete it from your system or register.

  25. SOME OF STARDOTZIP'S FEATURES INCLUDE :

  27. SHELL INTEGRATION WITH WINDOWS 95/98/NT :  
  28.    Support for long filenames, integration with the Windows 95/98/NT4 shell. 
  29.    You can open, extract, create archive files from Windows Explorer. 
  30.    You can also drag and drop files from StarDotZip to other applications 
  31.    that support drag and drop (even to another instance of StarDotZip). 
  32.    You can also drag and drop archives to StarDotZip to open them, or 
  33.    drag other file types to create new archives or add to 
  34.    currently open archives.

  36. SUPPORT FOR 14 ARCHIVE FILE FORMATS : 
  37.    These include many of the most popular formats found on the 
  38.    internet including UUE, TAR, GZIP, ZIP, XXE, ARJ, and many others.

  41. AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE EDITED FILES : 
  42.    When viewing/editing a file within an archive, either by 
  43.    double-clicking to open the file in it's associated program, 
  44.    or using one of your choosen programs to edit a file, StarDotZip
  45.    can automatically update the file in the archive. If the file 
  46.    included a path in the archive, the path will be retained.
  47.  
  48. CREATE SELF EXTRACTING ARCHIVES : 
  49.    This will allow you to create self extracting archives so 
  50.    you can distribute them to others that may not have 
  51.    any compression or extraction software.

  53. KEEP TRACK OF RECENTLY USED FOLDERS : 
  54.    StarDotZip can keep track of your most recently used folders 
  55.    that you used for opening, extraction, or creation of 
  56.    archive files. The number of folders to keep track of 
  57.    for each operation can be configured.

  59. MULTIPLE ARCHIVE SUPPORT : 
  60.    StarDotZip can open multiple archive files at the same time. 
  61.    You can also extract multiple archives with each going 
  62.    to their own folders if you wish.

  64. MULTI-VOLUME SUPPORT : 
  65.    StarDotZip can create multi-volume archives with just a few clicks. 
  66.    Currently this feature is only supported for ACE, ARJ, RAR, and ZIP archives. 
  67.    The size of each ACE, ARJ, or RAR archive file can also be set to either 
  68.    360k, 720k, 1.2 megs, or 1.44 megs.

  70. SUPPORT FOR VIRUS SCANNERS : 
  71.    StarDotZip can be set to use most virus scanners. You can also 
  72.    have your choosen virus scanner run after file extraction 
  73.    automatically.

  75. INTERNAL FILE VIEWER : 
  76.    StarDotZip has an internal file viewer that lets you view text 
  77.    files, bitmaps, jpegs, icons, animated icons and cursors, 
  78.    HTML files, and other file types. The number of files that 
  79.    the internal viewer can open is only limited by your system's 
  80.    memory although StarDotZip will stop opening if your system 
  81.    memory gets to low.

  83. INSTALL FILE EXTRACTION : 
  84.    Quite often, a program in an archive file that you 
  85.    download from the internet may be in the form of an 
  86.    installation program. With StarDotZip, you can open that 
  87.    archive and double-click on the installation EXE file 
  88.    (setup.exe or install.exe) and StarDotZip will offer to 
  89.    extract the neccesary files to proceed with the installation.

  94. 2. SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS
  95.  
  96. StarDotZip is a 32-bit program and will only run under 
  97. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000.

  100. External Archivers :  
  101.    To be able to compress (or convert to) Ace, Arc, Arj, 
  102.    Rar, and Zoo files, external programs are needed.
  103.  
  104. Virus scanner : 
  105.    Although this is not a requirement for running
  106.    StarDotZip, to use the Virus scanner options, you 
  107.    will need one. StarDotZip has been tested with McAfee, 
  108.    and Norton Anti-Virus programs and should work 
  109.    with others that can accept a folder name as a 
  110.    command-line parameter.

  112. The Windows Common Control Library file Comctl32.dll : 
  113.    StarDotZip requires at least version 4.72 
  114.    of the comctl32.dll file. You can get this file from :

  120. 3. SUPPORTED FILE TYPES

  122. The following file types are supported by StarDotZip :

  124.    Arc Files (*.arc)
  125.    Arj Files (*.arj)

  127.    Cab Files (*.cab)
  128.    Self Extracting (*.exe)
  129.    GZip Files (*.gz; *.z)
  130.    Jar Files (*.jar) (Sun Microsystem's JavaSoft .JAR format)
  131.    Lha Files (*.lha; *.lzh)
  132.    Rar Files (*.rar)
  133.    Tar Files (*.tar)
  134.    UUE (*.uue)

  138. StarDotZip can uncompress each of these file types without 
  139. the need for external programs. It can also create 
  140. archives for these file types, but some types 
  141. need an external program.

  143. In addition to these file types, StarDotZip can view Install 
  144. Shield install files (generally these files have
  145. extensions of .Z, .1, .2 etc.). However, StarDotZip is 
  146. unable to extract from this file type.

  174.    Simply Run SDZ_SETUP.EXE and read the instructions. Choose the location 
  175.    where you want to place the StarDotZip program files.

  181. Registration of StarDotZip entitles you to unlimited support via email.
  182. Registered users will also recieve all future versions of StarDotZip free of charge.

  213. 7. LICENSE AGREEMENT

  215. Use of the Software
  216.    Robert Jones (the "Author") grants you, 
  217.    the end user, a non-exclusive single-user 
  218.    license to use the supplied software program 
  219.    and all associated materials including 
  220.    supplied (the Software"). The Software and 
  221.    all Intellectual Property embodied in the 
  222.    Software always remains the property of the 
  223.    Author. Your use of the Software indicates 
  224.    your acceptance in full of the terms and 
  225.    conditions of this agreement.

  228. Evaluation period
  229.    You are allowed to use this software, subject 
  230.    to the terms listed below for an evaluation 
  231.    period of 30 days. After which time you must 
  232.    discontinue the use of the Software. Continued 
  233.    use past the 30 day evaluation period requires 
  234.    you to register the Software.

  237. Copying the Software
  238.    You may make copies of the Software for backup 
  239.    or archival purposes only. You may use the 
  240.    Software on one or more computers provided 
  241.    there is no possibility of it being used

  246. Distribution of the Unregistered Shareware Version of the Software
  247.    The Unregistered Shareware version of the

  284.    express or implied, including but not limited to,

  290.    By using the Software you do so at your own risk. 
  291.    In no event shall the Author be responsible for any 
  292.    damages whatsoever (including but not limited to,

  299.    In the event of failure of the Software for any reason, 
  300.    the Author's sole liability shall be to refund the 
  301.    purchase price of the Software or to provide a corrected

  306.    The Software and the Intellectual Property embodied 
  307.    in the Software shall always remain the property of 
  308.    the Author and is protected by United States Copyright 
  309.    Law and International Treaty Provisions.

  313.    Your use of the Software indicates your agreement with 
  314.    the above terms and conditions. If you do not agree 
  315.    with these terms and conditions then you should 
  316.    destroy all copies of the software and return the 
  317.    original copy of the software (where it has been 
  318.    supplied on diskette) within 14 days for a refund.

  320. Consumer Rights
  321.    If any clause in the above Software License Agreement 
  322.    is in violation of your consumer rights under your 
  323.    local laws then that clause will be deemed to be 
  324.    excluded in your specific case without effect on 
  325.    the remainder of the agreement.
